Camaro or Mustang?

Camaro vs Mustang

Over the years I have owned four sports cars, three of them Mustangs. I had and ’85, ’89 (both 5.0 liters) and a ’96 GT. I loved the first two while the last was a disappointment. Since then, I’ve graduated to more conservative cars such as my safe and practical Volvo sedan currently parked in my driveway. One thing I miss, the profound debate between Camaro and Mustang fans (he he). After an unfortunate hiatus the Camaro is back, refueling the old arguement; is the Camaro or Mustang superior?

My High School weekends consisted of cruising and street racing in my ‘85 Mustang. I witnessed fights, arrests, car accidents, and managed to get myself stopped many times by police (I think back and realize how idiotic I was). I raced several different kinds of cars including a few exotics. I challenged a 911 turbo, Acura NSX (both thoroughly smoked me of course), and some others. Within the mix, I battled several Camaros. These were some of the best races because both cars were so evenly matched. Nobody wanted to lose. A Mustang or Camaro fan losing to the other guy wasn’t pleasant. It was the sort of thing that motivated people to modify their cars in an attempt to avoid a future loss. If I remember correctly I won most of my races, but maybe I’m just biased.

With my ownership history and overall positive experiences, I favor the Mustang. Plus, I prefer it’s styling and think the build-quality has been better throughout the years. Chevy’s lapse producing the Camaro didn’t help. In general, I think the Mustang’s the better car.

Mustangs and Camaros

1985 Mustang Convertible. This is very similar to what my '85 looked like. I'll never forget all the fun and dangerous times I had in that car.

This is a 1989 Mustang. My '89 looked almost just like this. This was probably the best car I ever owned. It was crude, loud, and rough-riding; but had a fun-factor matched by no other vehicle I've owned.

Though I never owned any Mustang like this, I thought I'd include this picture. The Shelby GT-500 is one of my favorites.

I agree it's nice to see them back battling each other. Even if they will be driven by middle aged men. All the kids like there little 4 banger racers now.

The Camaro always gave you more than the Mustang. More power, more cubic inches, more car. For me I saw the Camaro as the car for the hardcore. The Mustang was a car more women liked.

Mustang is way better and ahead of Camaro because of the word "CONVERTIBLE!”. Chevrolet is not as strong as Mustang; it takes a lot of bucks to develop a convertible. ?

Personally I find that the mustang handles like a lumber wagon, and its to heavy and has always lacked horsepower but its always had more torque, sure the mustangs been around longer but its not beautiful

The camaro handles like a dream, it may be difficult to see out of but its got a better built engine, higher horsepower and torque

With this Camaro vs Mustang rivalry renewed I have to say...who's watching the Challenger????
